Project Description

SWC has played an important role in the construction of the new Riverview Bridge, connecting New Westminster and Surrey and replacing the old Pattullo Bridge. We have installed micropiles for bridge abutments and foundations, grade beams for long-term slope stability above Front Street, and temporary shotcrete walls to allow the bridge team to construct foundations, retaining walls, and utilities throughout the project.

SWC performed the enabling civil and off-site roadworks for the double high-rise development in 2017 and is contracted to complete the full off-site utilities, roadworks, street lighting, and signal works for this development in the heart of Burnaby, following the scheduled completion of the towers.

The Horne Pit site is a gravel pit owned by the Township of Langley. As part of the Township’s obligation for pit remediation, Southwest Contracting was contracted to supply, place, and compact approximately 400,000 m³ of structural fill.

The YVR Tank Farm Expansion project was undertaken to address increasing fuel storage requirements at Vancouver International Airport. SWC provided comprehensive civil construction services, including containment infrastructure for new fuel storage tanks, drainage systems for containment areas, underground utility installations, shotcrete stabilization of containment berm slopes, and the construction of concrete curbs and asphalt-paved surfaces across the site.

Installed tie-back anchors for the design-build temporary shoring system for the new St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver. In total, 546 strand anchors of varying capacities (4–12 strands), totaling 11,378 m, and 197 hollow-core anchors, totaling 3,433 m, were installed. SWC fabricated the strand anchors, up to 31 m in length, on site.

Project Description

The North Shore Conveyance Project is a major Metro Vancouver infrastructure project designed to transport wastewater from the new North Shore Wastewater Treatment Plant to the Lions Gate Outfall through a 2,134 mm-diameter steel gravity sewer main. SWC was responsible for TBM rescue, installation of the large-diameter welded steel pipeline, lining and coating of welded joints, and installation of a 900 mm HDPE forcemain. One of the project’s most significant challenges was the installation of the sewer main adjacent to an active railway corridor. To overcome this constraint, SWC proposed an innovative trench stabilization solution that enabled construction to proceed safely and efficiently while maintaining uninterrupted rail operations.

Project Description

Vancouver House is the iconic 59 story twisting skyscraper located at 1480 Howe Street Vancouver. Southwest Contracting was awarded the project after proposing a value engineering alternative that included seven stories of a corner strut brace design, conventional soldier pile shoring system with shotcrete and waler beams. This deep excavating and shoring project progressed seven stories below grade and just over 13 metres below sea level. This design assist approach provided both schedule and cost savings to the client.

Southwest Contracting was awarded the contract for bulk excavation, shotcrete shoring, and onsite civil works to prepare the foundation for the landmark Teck Acute Care Centre. The team managed complex earthworks and site servicing and assisted with precision as-built construction to support the eight-storey medical facility. Operating directly within an active healthcare campus, our crews successfully navigated these intricate civil constraints with zero disruption to surrounding critical hospital operations.

Project Description

This project showcased the versatility and efficiency of Southwest Contracting’s ground improvement, shoring, excavation, and civil divisions. Working for the SNC Lavalin–Graham Construction Joint Venture (SGJV), SWC completed three phases of shoring and excavation beneath eight lanes of arterial roadway to create the launch pit for the Evergreen Line tunnel boring machine.

The work included approximately 22,000 yd³ of excavation, 18,800 ft² of shoring walls, 635 shoring anchors, 86 jet grout columns, 66 reinforced secant piles, 86 soldier piles, utility support installations, and the relocation of water and sanitary infrastructure, including the realignment of Barnet Highway.
