BC Children’s Hospital Design Build – Teck Acute Care Centre

Southwest Contracting was awarded the contract for bulk excavation, shotcrete shoring, and onsite civil works to prepare the foundation for the landmark Teck Acute Care Centre. The team managed complex earthworks and site servicing and assisted with precision as-built construction to support the eight-storey medical facility. Operating directly within an active healthcare campus, our crews successfully navigated these intricate civil constraints with zero disruption to surrounding critical hospital operations.

Bevan Townhomes

Burnaby

The Bevan project is a 366-unit townhouse development being undertaken for Burnaby Housing Corporation and managed by Mosaic Ave Construction. SWC was contracted to perform all earthworks, underground utility installations, retaining wall construction, and site grading. Throughout the project, SWC will move approximately 90,000 m3 of excavation material and place approximately 20,000 m3 of fill to achieve the final site design.

Cameron Community Centre

Burnaby

Construction of a new community centre includes an array of new features, including two new swimming pools, a weight room, fitness area, double gym, café, and teaching and catering spaces. The project includes bulk excavation and shotcrete shoring, detailed excavation and backfill, and onsite civil construction. The new library will be four times larger than the original Cameron facility.

Citizen

Burnaby

Citizen is a 66-storey tower set to become one of Metrotown's tallest skyscrapers in Burnaby, BC. SWC was awarded the excavation and shoring for this 70-ft deep parkade. Excavation included remediation of contaminated material from existing grade down to the bottom of the excavation. This presented unique challenges to ensure our workers remained safe throughout the project and contaminated material was delineated from clean material limiting additional costs for Anthem Properties. The project started July 2024 and finished October 2025.

Southwest Contracting is unique among shoring contractors in the Lower Mainland and Calgary. We are able to provide jet grouting, soil mixing and shotcrete shoring systems to meet both wet and dry conditions in all but the Bow River gravel formations (better addressed with secant piling).

In our 50+ years addressing all types of shoring challenges we first utilized permeation grouting to “knit” soils together below grade to allow excavation in the dry. This has led to jet grouting and soil mixing for much larger projects in weak formations for both shoring and foundation support. The micro jetted pile was then developed by attaching our low overhead piling knowledge with jet grouting to allow small jetted piles in tight access locations.

Challenging projects require special solutions. Southwest has a range of equipment and experience to install any seismic anchor, micropile, tiedown anchor, rock anchors, soil nails, pipe piles or spiles. Anchor types range from IBO’s (Injection Bored) to DCP’s. (Dywidag Anchors) and from Jet Grout shoring to Strand Anchor installations.
