Combined Sewer Overflow Facility Storage Tank

Project Description

Southwest Contracting Ltd. was mobilized to help when a 290’ steel sheet piling cut-off wall refused to advance through clay layers in saturated dense sands along side the Fraser River.

SWC selected the Klemm KL104, a large German 12-ton tracked drill rig with dual rotary heads. This double-head rig was designed to drill through overburden strata more efficiently than single head type rigs.

5” drill holes were advanced adjacent to the face of the steel sheet piles. The selected drilling techniques aimed at disturbing/loosening the native in-situ soils in order to then advance sheets to 80’ depth.

SWC was able to save the client money as it mobilized quickly, mitigating stand-by charges.
