Ruskin Dam Generating Station

Project Description

PROJECT SUMMARY

Approximate Shoring Contract Value:  $720,000
Engineer: BC Hydro

SCOPE OF WORK

  • Rock anchors: 16 anchors, 26dia. 1035MPa threadbar with DCP x 7.5m ea.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

As part of the BC Hydro – Ruskin Dam and Powerhouse Upgrade Project, SWC undertook the installation of 16 rock anchors for intakes 1 and 2. The anchors were designed to increase the structural stability of the existing intakes, such that they can resist sliding and toppling movements during a seismic event.

The anchors had to be drilled through the existing deck, through water, and to the bedrock. Contact pipes were installed prior to mobilization, to facilitate a sealed environment for SWC to install the anchors through. SWC had to check the seal by conducting pressure tests; if the test failed, the contact pipe had to be grouted, re-drilled, and the seal re-checked. SWC worked with divers, who assisted with setting the installation of hardware underwater.
