Project Description
This joint venture between SWC and Condon-Johnson & Associates, Inc. created a less costly alternative for forming in-situ soil-cement columns.
The initial shoring of choice used an anchored steel sheet pile wall through approximately 30 feet of soft clay, further driven to refusal in sandy glacial tills. The soil-cement columns are reinforced with HP Piling as structural inserts creating the Geo-Jet Pile.
The Geo-Jet drill advanced soil-cement panels on either side of boulders, which proved advantageous to a conventional sheet pile application that would otherwise have been ceased.
The average 50’ long piles were tied-back with an upper row of 168-kip strand anchors, and a lower row of 80-kip Titan IBO anchors. The 45° tie-backs reached lengths over 120’ overall.
Scope of work
Geo-jet columns: ~ 500 each x 30” F = 1,200 L.Ft.
Bulk excavation: ~ 200,000 cubic yards
Anchored shotcrete shoring: ~ 25,000 square feet
Ground Conditions: Clay overlying hydraulic sands and gravels to boulders
